Walmart is looking for a Lead Counsel II – Appellate and Complex Litigation for its Arkansas Office with 7+ years of experience.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Advise business and leadership about legal rights, obligations, and risks while assisting appellate and complex litigation for the world’s largest retailer
- Develop and drive consistent strategy across the litigation portfolio, as well as strategizing potential affirmative litigation on behalf of the company
- Collaborate with the commercial litigation team to develop strategy on complex issues
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to mitigate legal and business risk, providing legal advice and counsel
- Retain, manage, and collaborate closely with outside counsel to drive case strategy, review and edit court submissions, and manage legal spend
- Drive legal strategies for the company’s appellate and complex litigation matters
- Provide legal advice and counsel to internal stakeholders
- Manage outside counsel and legal spend for appellate and complex litigation matters
- Review legislative trends and significant legal decisions
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities for strategic litigation
- Work with internal and external counsel to develop consistent, high-quality written work product on behalf of the company
Minimum Qualifications
- Law degree from an accredited law school and 7 years’ experience in law
- At least four years of appellate practice experience post-clerkship
- License to practice law in at least one U.S. state and in good standing
- 4 years’ experience leading cross-functional teams
Preferred Skills
- An appellate expert, with experience briefing and arguing appeals in state and federal courts
- Process-minded and looking for opportunities to streamline for improved efficiency and effectiveness
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with senior leadership and stakeholders
