The GPO Indirect Tax is a global team that centrally partners with stakeholders across Microsoft to optimize global indirect tax processes, develop and maintain best-in-class systems and tools, and enhance governance and controls to support Global Indirect Tax in managing risk and exposure across reporting and compliance. The GPO Indirect Tax team sits within the Tax & Customs Process and Technology Team (“TCPT”) which focuses on collaborating within the Tax & Customs function and across other Microsoft functions including Operations Finance, FinOps, Corporate Accounting, Engineering and Supply Chain.

Responsibilities

The role requires agility and skill in navigating multiple stakeholder requirements while enabling accelerated growth aspirations for the business in a highly competitive market environment. This position requires collaboration, self-motivation, and curiosity in learning and research.

  • Assist with the design, improvement, and implementation of process and/or solution capabilities that support indirect tax determination, reporting, and compliance
  • Assist with the design, improvement, and implementation of Microsoft’s global tax engine (Vertex)
  • Operating and enhancing the technology and applications (Microsoft stack, custom, and third party) as needed by tax teams
  • Maintain the relationship with internal and external stakeholders as it relates to delivering statutory and go-to-market requirements across the indirect tax platform required by the tax department to ensure compliance
  • Maintain the relationship with internal and external stakeholders as it relates to gathering financial information required by the tax department
  • Ongoing monitoring and evaluation of indirect tax processes and tools for further automation, efficiency, and governance
  • Close partnership with tax teams in support of key compliance and filing processes during monthly, quarterly, and year-end cycles.

Salary

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $72,800 – $144,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $95,100 – $157,900 per year.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field, or related field AND 4+ years of direct and indirect tax compliance, tax returns, tax accounting, or tax audit management experience
    •  OR Master’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Tax, Law, or related field AND 4+ years of direct and indirect tax compliance, tax returns, tax accounting, or tax audit management experience
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Tax, Law, or related field AND 5+ years of direct and indirect tax compliance, tax returns, tax accounting, or tax audit management experience
    • OR Master’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Tax, Law, or related field 5+ years of direct and indirect tax compliance, tax returns, tax accounting, or tax audit management experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Master of Laws (LLM), or similar certification 
  • Proficiency with Indirect Tax determination and compliance software (e.g.: Vertex, OneSource)
  • Experience with solution design, testing, production environments, documentation, user guides, and troubleshooting
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Power Platform
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (Power BI)
  • Process Design & Continuous Process Improvement
  • Agile and/or project management experience
  • Analytics & Reporting
  • Cross-group collaboration and stakeholder management
  • Knowledge of data best practices + proficiency with large relational datasets
  • Prior experience within a finance business unit and/or tax function
