United States Attorney’s Office (USAO) serves as the principal litigator representing the United States of America within the district. The United States Attorney has the responsibility and authority to prosecute violations of federal criminal statutes, defend the government in civil actions, seek the enforcement of a variety of civil enforcement statutes, and institute proceedings for the collection of fines and penalties, among other things.

About the Opportunity

The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada is seeking an exceptional, experienced civil rights attorney to join their team an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) in the Civil Division.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Represent the United States in various civil affirmative civil rights enforcement litigation actions
  • Represent the United States in litigation action regarding housing and fair lending, ADA enforcement, the Civil Rights of Institutional Persons Act, voting rights, service members’ rights, pattern and practice investigations, human trafficking, and employment discrimination.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree
  • Be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction)
  • Have at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience
  • United States citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 3 to 5 years of federal litigation experience.
  • Experience taking and defending depositions of lay and expert witnesses.
  • Experience working with expert witnesses, including locating expert witnesses, and preparing expert witness disclosures.
  • Candidates should have an outstanding academic record and litigation experience.
  • Candidates should have excellent legal research and writing skills.
  • Candidates should demonstrate a strong ability to communicate effectively with courts, colleagues, opposing counsel and others.
  • Candidates should also have significant computer and computer software literacy.

The salary for this position is $70,447 – $182,400.
