BMW Group is inviting applications from eligible candidates for the position of Corporate Counsel in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Provides expert, comprehensive legal advice for BMW and its officers, directors, management, and employees on business-critical, strategic, high-risk, exposure, regulatory, compliance, public policy, and day-to-day matters with a primary (but not exclusive) focus on labour, employment, and benefits matters.
- Performs as much legal work as possible in-house, controlling legal costs, and manages and directs law firms, experts, legislative counsel, lobbyists, vendors, suppliers, alternate dispute resolution providers, and other third parties in handling BMW legal affairs.
- Requires a high level of functional responsibility and ability to interact with and advise persons from a wide variety of backgrounds, education, and management levels.
- Provides business and legal counsel on contractual, commercial, and employment issues.
- Reviews, drafts, and negotiates legal agreements with suppliers and service providers.
- In total, this position involves the active management of numerous entities and/or people at all times.
- Controls budgets and handles matters in a cost-effective manner to achieve budget targets.
- Serves as backup to other BMW lawyers.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- A member of the bar association in at least one jurisdiction in the US.
- Licensed to practice law in South Carolina (including SC Supreme Court Rule 405 limited certificate of admission to practice law in South Carolina for in-house counsel).
- 5 years of legal experience practising law.
- 2 years of labour and employment law, litigation, and contract law experience is required.
- Must be able to use Microsoft Office and other legal research tools.
- Must be able to travel overnight as necessary.
