The UW Global Legal Studies Center & South Asia Legal Studies Working Group are pleased to announce the 12th Annual South Asia Legal Studies Workshop Thursday, October 11, 2018 University of Wisconsin Law School.
Call for Papers
We invite you to submit a SHORT PAPER or PROJECT proposal relating to any aspect of the study of law and South Asia. If selected, your submission will be featured in a solo session at the 12th annual workshop. The topics are given in the official notification given below.
Your final written piece (10-12pp.) should be either: (1) an excerpted or abbreviated version of a longer paper, chapter, or article, and will be part of our SHORT PAPER sequence or (2) a project proposal for a dissertation, article, book, grant or fellowship application, and will be part of our PROJECT INCUBATOR session.
As a presenter, you will not give a formal presentation, but will only provide brief opening comments (5-10 minutes) at the beginning of your session.
We also invite you to volunteer as a commentator for the 2018 workshop. Commentators will provide brief questions and comments (5-10 min.) at the beginning of each short paper or project incubator session, following the author’s opening remarks.

To submit a SHORT PAPER or PROJECT proposal: please provide the following in a single PDF with your first and last name in the document title (e.g. “Rupa Gupta SALS submission”) to Mitra Sharafi (mitra.sharafi@wisc.edu) and Sumudu Atapattu (sumudu.atapattu@wisc.edu) by Friday, April 13, 2018:
- Full contact details: your name, institutional affiliation, mailing address, e-mail address, and phone number;
- whether you are submitting a SHORT PAPER OR PROJECT proposal;
- title;
- abstract (max. 300 words); and
- short CV (max. 2 pages).
If accepted, the full text of your written piece is due to the organizers by Thursday, September 13, 2018.
