About the Internship
Workday is seeking highly motivated Interns and Fellows, rising second-year and part-time law students entering their final year, to join its Legal, Compliance, and Corporate Affairs team (“LCCA”) in an exciting new in-house legal pipeline program that offers an exciting direct track from law school to an in-house legal career in the technology industry. Roles and Responsibilities
- Assist in-house attorneys with legal matters in various areas including commercial and technology transactions, intellectual property, corporate governance, strategic alliances, privacy, cybersecurity, litigation and dispute resolution, and employment law.
- Assist with contract processing (generating contracts from templates, reviewing and responding to requested edits, and preparing documents for signature).
- Interpret and summarize terms and conditions of existing contracts.
- Assist in-house attorneys in advising product, marketing, and engineering teams on legal issues related to new and existing product development and technology innovations.
- Conduct legal research, analyze business impact and legal risk, and prepare memoranda.
- Become acquainted with legal department business processes and highlight opportunities for automation and process improvement.
Required Qualifications
- The candidate should currently be enrolled as a rising 2L or part-time J.D. candidate entering his/her final year of law school at an ABA-accredited law school.
- Must be in good academic standing, maintain student status throughout the duration of the internship, and plan to return for the 18-month rotational fellowship (see below) upon graduation from law school.
- Available for 12 weeks during Summer 2024 and willing to be based in Pleasanton, CA during this period.
- Outstanding organizational skills with the ability to work efficiently and independently in a fast-paced, high-output, team-oriented environment.
- Supports business needs with strategic focus, critical thinking, and problem-solving approach.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to summarize and present key takeaways for management.
- Ability to multi-task and manage changing priorities with a positive attitude.
- Excellent analytical ability and legal drafting skills.
- A strong teammate who can build internal and external relationships and collaborate regularly with cross-functional networks.
