Steptoe & Johnson LLP is accepting applications for its Steptoe Pre-Law Fellowship Program for the Pre-Law Fellow/Project Assistant job for multiple locations in New York, Chicago, LA, San Fransisco or DC. They are inviting applications from recent graduates with an interest to pursue a career in law.
Role and Responsibilities
- Pre-Law Fellows / Project Assistants will get a feel of what it’s like to work in a law firm environment, working in Practice Support and/or in Business Services;
- Pre-Law Fellows / Project Assistants will also participate in enrichment opportunities. Sample enrichment opportunities are expected to include:
- “Lunch and Learns” with law firm partners, associates, and senior leadership;
- Field trips to courthouses and other law-related locations;
- Participation in Summer Associate Program events as appropriate;
- Shadowing attorneys or paralegals in depositions, hearings, trials, closings, client meetings, and more;
- Attendance at training programs as appropriate;
- Participation in firmwide events.
Eligibility for Pre Fellow/Project Assistant job
- Pre-Law Fellows / Project Assistants must have completed a four-year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited institution or equivalent.
- Pre-Law Fellows / Project Assistants are expected to have served as leaders in their communities and institutions, as well as to have earned a minimum G.P.A. of 3.5.
- Pre-Law Fellows / Project Assistants must have a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in law.

As part of their candidacy, Pre-Law Fellow / Project Assistant applicants must submit:

- Statement of interest in the legal field (500-word limit, including whether your interest is in a specific practice group or in more general law practice and law firm operations)
- Letter of recommendation from a dean, professor, judge, or practicing attorney
Working Hours
The work schedule for this role is 9:00 am to 5:30 pm (Monday-Friday), with additional hours as required.

This role is a non-exempt position that can be based in any of their U.S. offices (Washington, DC; New York; Chicago; Los Angeles; and San Francisco) and serves all offices.
