Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the counselling of persons of concern to UNHCR.
  • Monitoring and analyzing Belgian asylum law and practice.
  • Researching country of origin information and a variety of refugee and statelessness issues.
  • Drafting documents including reports and correspondence, and responding to information requests.
  • Writing, editing, and translating texts (in English, Dutch, and French, according to a native language).
  • Assisting with the organization of events.
  • Assisting with general office tasks.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.
  • Not have immediate relatives (father, mother, brother, or sister) working for UNHCR as a staff member on any contract type or as an affiliate at the time of application.
  • Candidates who are not nationals of Belgium must hold a valid residence/work permit in Belgium at the time of application
  • Applicants should be Dutch or French speakers at a native level, and master the other respective language (French or Dutch) at the working level (B1-B2), in addition to an excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Evidence of previous experience and/ or a strong interest in refugee matters or human rights is appreciated.

Required Languages

French and Dutch.
