About the Opportunity
Labcorp is inviting applications from eligible candidates who possess an advanced degree (juris doctor) and have at least 2 years of contract negotiation, drafting, or related legal experience, including intern and law clerk activities for its position of Corporate Counsel in Durham, North Carolina.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Actively advice Contracts Management, operations, site contracting, and vendor management staff and function leadership on the review and negotiation of contracts and dispute escalation matters within assigned areas of responsibility.
- Advice and build relationships with key business contacts to support business functions and identify and manage risk areas.
- Directly negotiate with the company’s customers, vendors, sites, and others as necessary to resolve commercial issues during contracting or dispute escalation.
- Support the development and improvement of company standard operating procedures, business operating procedures, departmental practices, and other systemic documentation as requested.
- Suggest improvements to departmental processes, templates, tools, and training on an ongoing basis in response to emerging trends, customer preferences, and the company’s risk management posture.
- Regularly use company systems including the action tracking system and other corporate systems as required and supports departmental reporting requirements.
- Provide management with regular status updates on open matters and outstanding issues.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Arts or Science; Juris Doctorate or LLM
- Admitted to practice law in a US state.
- The Corporate Counsel should have at least 2 years of contract negotiation, drafting, or related legal experience, including intern and law clerk activities.
- Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills are essential requirements.
- The capacity to review large commercial contracts and provide practical, business-focused advice is required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of general corporate business practices and a sound understanding of contracting models and commercial practices is required.
- Experience in the clinical research industry or a healthcare services field is helpful.
- Language capabilities in addition to English are valued especially in Mandarin, French, or Spanish.
