About Immigration Legal Coordinator Job Opportunity
The Immigration Legal Assistant is responsible for assisting the staff of the World Relief Baltimore Immigrant Services Office (WR BISO) to provide comprehensive immigration-related legal services to clients as part of a Department of Justice (DOJ) recognized organization.
Role and Responsibilities
- Provide reception to office visitors and register clients for in-person meetings, and receive their required documentation
- Interview clients and complete intake forms
- Assist individuals with completing their immigration paperwork
- Provide an explanation of benefits and case procedure to individuals. Gather necessary documentation for client cases
- Record client information in case management software and assist in the maintenance of organized online case files as well as office files
- Assist with casework and preparation of legal forms
- Prepare applications for mailed submission; scan filing for upload to the database
- Maintain organized office case filing and scan case files as needed to a computer database
- Open, distribute and process incoming mailed communication from USCIS, Department of State, etc.
- Communicate with clients by telephone, email, and mail regarding their immigration matters
- Assist legal practitioners with responses to Requests for Evidence (RFE), Notices of Intent to Deny (NOID), Motions to Re-Open, etc.
- Participate in in-house training with staff and volunteers on best usage of case management software; attend training regarding immigration legal issues
Eligibility
- 2- or 4-year College degree
- Lived immigrant experience
- Previous training in immigration law and practice
- Experience with legal writing
- Ability to speak and write other languages
- Experience in LawLogix legal database
- Interest in pursuing immigration law training for DOJ accreditation
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
